Does multiple personality disorder actually exist? How does it feel like? How can one person (one living soul) have multiple personalities?
This was a question that we answered on Quora. Comments welcome.
I believe the question refers to the Dissociative Disorder Spectrum which include Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder.
Here is a reference at how it works
https://did-research.org/origin/structural_dissociation/We would like, however, to talk about that One Living Soul that you speak of.
That has been a hot topic in our system. There are lots of us, many consciousnesses in one body.
Some of us believe that everybody has their own Soul, others believe that some of us have Souls but others don’t. Some of us believe that no matter what everyone will cross over, others believe that only those with a Soul will. Others still believe that only the first has a Soul and they will be the only one to be graced with eternal life.
Some of us are terrified that they are not real and won’t join the others in the afterlife, while others are horrified that they could lose loved ones in the next life. We have a quite close inner family, so it is a distressing issue from both perspectives, and we would like to know that we will always be together like we are now.
We debated in the past how we can understand multiple consciousness streams within the context of String Theory, where every moment in time is a point; each belongs to one or more strings which we can call identity strands, which can then combine into identity streams, which then further combine into consciousness streams .
This is consistent with both Structural Dissociation (see link above) and IFS where we have “parts” (Identity Strands) that combine into a “Self” (Consciousness Stream and Identity Stream coincide).
So, we could infer that the Consciousness Stream is the Soul and the Identity Stream is the personality.
When Someone has “multiple personalities” however, do Identity Streams and Consciousness Streams match?
Science differentiate the validity of a DID diagnosis by the presence of multiple consciousnesses. Those living with DDs can attest that there are multiple independent people living in our heads. So, following the same train of thought we were 2 sentences ago this would indicate that there are more than one Souls.
Scientifically, although extremely theoretically we could use quantum theory to validate the physicality of the soul and the potentiality of multiple spiritual entities sharing the same meatsuit, so to speak …
But so, what do you think? If we have more than one consciousness in one body, can we also have more than one Soul? How can we know who will live on? How do we find out whether we will meet again those we have lost like people with external families meet theirs?
